Theatre Royal Drury Lane
Situated in the heart of London within the thriving West End, stands the Grade I listed building ‘Theatre Royal’, commonly known as Drury Lane.
At Surface 360, we were commissioned to transform the external terrace area by replacing the old floor with our 20mm porcelain paving tiles installed on pedestal support system.
To complement the décor and style of the building, the Levato Mono Quartz Style tile range was the preferred choice. Quartz Style boasts a hyper-realistic stone-effect surface finish with the interpretation of natural quartzite, while offering the Theatre subtle tones and varying shades, without overpowering the building.
Before any work could commence, we conducted an initial site survey to decide the best approach to install the new porcelain floor. Having uncovered an existing metal substructure brace and fibreglass grating, which were installed to increase the loading capacity on the terrace of the old building for the previous flooring, the Surface 360 team opted to utilise their height adjustable, slope correcting Pedestal Support System.
Once installed, each large format porcelain paving tile could be installed on top of the Pedestal System with precision, and accurately levelled across the 100m2 terrace area.
Our Support Pedestal System is ideal for awkward flooring areas and other substrates with multiple falls. This is a common problem found when replacing an existing floor, but is an easy fix due to our high performance Pedestal System.
Stone-Effect Porcelain Paving Tiles
Unlike real quartzite, stone-effect 20mm porcelain offers desirable characteristics for any project with its durable, mould free and slip resistant surface finish. In particular, Quartz Style 01 provides any project with an R12 (A, B & C) Classification for slip resistance, which is tested to the UK recognised, German National Standard. Not only does this provide peace of mind and safety under foot for the visitors at The Theatre Royal, but it also provides a very low maintenance and easy-to-clean surface for The Theatre staff.
