Situated close to the Brighton Palace Pier and Beach is Jamie’s Italian Restaurant. Nestled within Brighton’s famous lanes and located on Black Lion Street, the restaurant boasts a new exterior roof terrace dining area.
To begin the project installation, the Surface 360 team utilised their Height Adjustable, Self Levelling Paving Tile Support Pedestals to provide a perfectly level raised floor. The Pedestal System is a preferred choice to eradicate any imperfections that may occur on the existing substrate. In addition, the team installed a Sound Suppressant Pad underneath each Pedestal to not only reduce echo and potential gravel crunch, but also provide an extra layer of protection between the pedestal and substrate.
For the floor surface, the restaurant decided on Levato Mono Quartz Style 02 and 03 porcelain tiles from the Surface 360 range, which has a hyper-realistic stone-effect surface replicating the varying shades and distinctive stone markings of natural quartzite. Instead of choosing a tile that offered a substantial variation of tones within each individual porcelain tile, the restaurant opted to install two differing tones from the same range to provide the new floor with a block-style variation, creating an irregular ‘chess-board-esque’ design.
Each 600mm x 600mm large format porcelain tile offers a very high slip resistance, which is very important for the new dining terrace. Although customers or staff may not use the terrace in poor conditions, it is important for the new floor to provide safety-under-foot for any pedestrian traffic no matter the weather, incase access is required. Therefore, Quartz Style boasts a slip resistance classification of R12 (ABC) that is tested to the UK recognised, German National Standard.
